Funding Continues For Fourth District Paratransit Shuttle Service

Supervisor Don Knabe today announced that the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved $608,000 in funding for the continuation of paratransit shuttle service for eligible patrons in the unincorporated areas of the Fourth District for Fiscal Year 2008-2009.

The program will include the following paratransit shuttle services: La Rambla, Marina del Rey, Rancho Los Amigos, Teen Mother, and the Whittier Islands.

“I am pleased to be able to secure the funds for this service,” said Supervisor Knabe. “Many of our transit dependent residents utilize public transportation and these shuttle services are a vital component of their livelihood.”

The County will provide funding through the Fourth District’s Proposition A Local Return Transit Program. The financing continues the successful shuttle service for eligible patrons of the unincorporated areas of the Fourth District, improving mobility for transit dependant patrons.

Marina del Rey Accomplishments

2008

Upgrading the South Bay Bike Trail
A major upgrade and overhaul of the South Bay Bike Trail was completed. The portion of the renovated bike path is located between 62nd Avenue and Culver Boulevard in the Playa del Rey community of the City of Los Angeles. The project involved the reconstruction of the existing bike trail, including the construction of deep base to stabilize the path and new concrete pavement, and the installation of new striping and pavement markings.

2007

Redirecting Urban Runoff and Pollutants Away from Ocean
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors accepted the construction of a new low-flow diversion that was recently completed at Washington Boulevard in the vicinity of Marina del Rey. Low-flow diversions are designed to keep non-storm water flows from reaching the ocean by instead diverting the water into a sewage treatment plant.

Marina del Rey Seawall Upgrades
A $5.3 million upgrade project was started on the seawalls surrounding Marina del Rey. The improvements to 17,600 linear feet of the seawall will help protect against deterioration caused by tidal changes. The Marina contains more than 7.2 miles of underwater seawalls designed to protect the community.

Expanding Summer Beach Shuttle Service
The Beach Shuttle, which is free of charge and open to the public, is funded by a combination of funds from Supervisor Knabe and Playa Vista. The Beach Shuttle which serves Playa Vista, Marina del Rey and the Venice Beach Pier is now offering expanded service to Fisherman’s Village in Marina del Rey.

Renewing Reward for Hit-and-Run Death of Marina del Rey Man
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors renewed a $10,000 reward, at the request of Supervisor Knabe, for information related to the hit-and-run death of Marina del Rey resident, Patrick Conarpe.

Testing Early Warning Loudspeakers in Marina del Rey
The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors tested several different early warning loudspeaker systems at Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey. Several companies competed for the County’s use of their device. The equipment is being considered as part of a mass notification warning system for residents and visitors in Marina del Rey in the event of impending danger from either a natural or human-made disaster.

Funding Fourth District Paratransit Shuttle Services
The Board of Supervisors approved $660,000 in funding for the continuation of paratransit shuttle service for eligible patrons in the unincorporated areas of the Fourth District for Fiscal Year 2007-2008. The program will include the following paratransit shuttle services: La Rambla, Marina del Rey, Rancho Los Amigos, Teen Mother, and the Whittier Islands.
