2010

Releasing Palos Verdes Blue Butterflies
Supervisor Don Knabe joined community leaders for the release of endangered Palos Verdes blue butterflies into restored coastal sage scrub habitat at Deane Dana Friendship Community Regional Park and Nature Center (Friendship Park) in San Pedro. The Palos Verdes blue butterfly is a small, colorful, thumbnail-sized butterfly that was federally listed as endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1980. The release of endangered Palos Verdes blue butterflies at Deane Dana Friendship Park is one component of ongoing multiple partnership efforts to recover this endangered native species in southern California.

Continuing Funding for the PVPTA Shuttle Service

The Board of Supervisors approved the disbursement of $408,200 to the Palos Verdes Peninsula Transit Authority to continue public transit services for the Fiscal Year 2009-2010. The funds for the disbursement come from the Fourth Supervisorial District's allocation of Proposition A Local Return Transit Program funds.

2008

Renovating Fire Station in Rolling Hills
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved the first phase of a project that will renovate fire and lifeguard stations throughout the County. Renovations are needed in over 90 of the County’s fire and lifeguard stations to meet code requirements and give female employees privacy when sleeping, dressing, and changing. Twelve facilities will be renovated in Phase 1 of the program, including Fire Station 56 in Rolling Hills.

Preventing Graffiti at South Coast Botanic Gardens

The South Coast Botanic Gardens on the Palos Verdes Peninsula will receive a new chain link fence along Rolling Hills Road and the horse trail. The Security Fencing Graffiti Prevention Project will increase security and make the garden less accessible to graffiti and vandalism. The estimated total project cost is $101,000, and is funded by Proposition A Competitive Excess Grant Funds in the amount of $85,000 with the remaining $16,000 coming from the South Coast Botanic Gardens Special Development Fund.

2007

Overhauling the Outdated Irrigation System at Los Verdes Golf Course
More than $2.6 million was invested into renovating the irrigation system at the County’s Los Verdes Golf Course on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The new system will include a weather station and computer system to fully automate irrigation of the golf course. In addition to gauging water needs, the new system will also be capable of injecting fertilizer into the turf.

Provided funding to the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy for the Portuguese Bend Nature Preserve.

South Coast Botanical Gardens Improvement Project – Structural upgrades to repair settlement of auditorium building and adjacent/ walkways, renovation to building interior including kitchen and restroom, new ADA entry to building complex.
