County Completes Storm Drains at Paseo Del Mar Landslide Area

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe announced that the County’s Public Works Department has completed the realignment of two storm drains along Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro.

Engineers had been monitoring the area surrounding the storm drains for several months. Work on the realignment project began in early October because of concerns generated by incidents of street subsidence along Paseo Del Mar.

The 54-inch and 84-inch storm drains, which provide critical flood protection to communities in the Palos Verdes Peninsula, were ultimately impacted by a landslide that occurred on November 20, 2011, on the bluff above White Point Beach. The storm drains originally joined at a beach access road that failed during the landslide.

“I want to thank the neighbors for their patience while this critical work was completed,” said Supervisor Knabe. “Our Public Works department was committed to finishing the project before the arrival of winter and potential rain storms. For the safety and quality-of-life of this community, I am pleased that their hard work paid off.”

Public Works Engineers will continue to inspect the storm drains, given on-going land movement in the area.
