Friends of the Fourth
District:
Nearly 400 years have passed since the autumn day in 1620 that the
pilgrims of the Plymouth Colony chose to mark as a day of
Thanksgiving. Although many decades and centuries have passed since
that day so long ago, the reasons for that celebration still ring
true today: freedom, gratitude for the many blessings bestowed upon
us and a chance to gives thanks for both.
It is with that in mind that we celebrate Thanksgiving as a holiday
with a special sense of warmth and meaning. As we mark the beginning
of the Holiday season, let us all pause to enjoy the peace and
prosperity we enjoy here in the United States.
Today we must also stop and give thanks to our men and women of the
Armed Forces – who are battling for freedom against tyranny and
oppression far from home this Holiday season. For thousands of our
troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, know that your country is
grateful for your service and sacrifice. You are each in our hearts
and our prayers as we give thanks for the blessings in our lives.
Here in Los Angeles County, we have much to be thankful for. We are
facing the challenges of the future together as we work to build a
better community for ourselves and our children and grandchildren.
It takes all of us giving our very best to our community in order to
improve it, but together, we are doing just that.
My hope for you and your family is that your Thanksgiving will be
safe and healthy. From my family to yours, we offer you our very
best wishes as we begin the celebrations of this Holiday season and
may God continue to bless the United States of America.
