Groundbreaking of La Mirada Aquatics Center and Sheriff's Station Expansion
It is good to be with
you tonight. Days like today are my favorite – days when we get to
celebrate successful partnerships that will bring better services
and opportunities to our communities.
As many of you know, the
soon-to-be-constructed La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center is a
cooperative project between the City of La Mirada and County of Los
Angeles. The City and the County have previously entered into a
number of successful cooperative agreements to develop public
improvements.
In recent years, the
County provided the land for construction of the La Mirada Community
Gymnasium. The County also cooperated in the expansion of the Civic
Center parking lot to make possible the construction of the La
Mirada Resource Center and the Activity Center. To help the City of
La Mirada develop the new Aquatics Center, the County of Los Angeles
recently transferred the title of approximately 18-acres of land to
the City.
For many years, La
Mirada residents have expressed a need for improved aquatic
facilities and increased aquatic programming opportunities in the
community. By working together on this project, the residents of
this area will finally attain the broad range of aquatics services
they desire.
When completed in 2007,
this regional aquatics venue will offer residents of La Mirada and
residents of other surrounding cities both traditional style pool
facilities and “family-fun” features. This center will offer a full
range of competition, instructional, recreational and therapeutic
aquatic opportunities.
In the future, we look
forward to continued cooperation with the City of La Mirada in the
development of a new fire station at the intersection of Beach
Boulevard and Hillsborough Drive, which will serve the eastern
portion of the community. Thanks. God Bless America. ### |
