Appreciation Luncheon
Thanks Pete.
Good afternoon.
Appreciate everyone here
today to honor public safety officers.
I particularly want to offer my praise and support to the over 400
County employees who are currently serving in our nation’s Armed
Forces or have served within the past year.
We offer you our prayers on your safe return to your family and to
your County family.
I also want to say thanks to the countless public safety volunteers.
Our Volunteers on Patrol, working the stations, answering phones,
helping at special events or traffic control and crowd control.
You’re hard work is integral and appreciated.
This is a day I look forward to all year – an opportunity to thank
the men and women of our public safety community for their
dedication to serving others.
The American poet Henry Van Dyke said, “There is a life that is
worth living - the honest life, the useful life, the unselfish life,
cleansed by devotion to an ideal. There is a battle worth fighting
now, just as much as it was worth fighting then, and that is the
battle for justice and equality.”
That is the life you have chosen for yourself and I hope you
appreciate the gift of your work as much as our community does.
Day in and day out you keep our families and communities safe
For that we take today to say thank you and salute your bravery
And pay tribute to all who have given their lives in the line of
duty.
Challenging times show us an individual's true character
And when disaster has struck, you’ve been there to protect us.
When safety has been threatened in our communities, you’ve been
there to shield us.
Simply saying thank you barely scratches the surface at our
gratitude for your service and sacrifice.
