2016 Arts Education Partnership Program Application is Open

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe is pleased to announce his 2016 Arts Education Partnership Program (AEPP), which will support high quality arts education programs by providing matching funds to nonprofit organizations, community organizations, government agencies and schools across the Fourth Supervisorial District.

Supervisor Knabe’s announcement reaffirms his support of arts education for all students in L.A. County schools and concurs with the US Congress that arts education is “an essential element of a complete and balanced education for all students”.

The Arts Education Partnership Program will increase and sustain well-rounded education in dance, music, theatre and the visual arts for K-12 students. A panel of experts from various art disciplines will review and evaluate all received grant applications.

Application deadline: December 9, 2015 at 11:00 p.m.

Workshop

A two part application workshop will take place at the Los Angeles County Arts Commission on Thursday, November 17, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The first half will provide applicants with an overview of the program, the online application and best practices, while the second half will provide an introduction to developing a strong curriculum sample by integrating Visual and Performing Arts Standards and Arts Education best pratices.

Fifteen Fourth District Arts Organizations Awarded Grants

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission has announced $4,518,000 in two-year grants to 180 nonprofit arts organizations through its Organizational Grant Program (OGP). For the second year in a row, the current allocation represents a $200,000 increase in funding from the previous grant cycle and provides support to ensure arts organizations continue to provide cultural services to the diverse population that comprises Los Angeles County.

Grant amounts range from $3,600 to $233,300. Grantee organizations are spread throughout LA County with offices located in over 39 of the County’s 88 municipalities. 11% of the organizations funded are receiving County arts grants for the first time and 50% have applied for funding to pay for salaries or job creation. Over 80 knowledgeable panelists from the arts community, including artists, nonprofit arts administrators and members of the academic community, reviewed and scored the applications.

“Although the economic climate is shifting, we know that organizations continue to struggle with staffing concerns,” said Los Angeles County Arts Commission President Araceli Ruano. “We are pleased to offer funding to pay for salaries and job creation. The residents of Los Angeles County will be impacted through increased job opportunities and continued access to a diverse range of cultural services.”

Los Angeles County Awards Grants to 32 Fourth District Arts Organizations

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission has announced $4,318,000 in two-year grants to 194 nonprofit arts organizations. The current awards represent a $200,000 increase in funding from the previous grant cycle and provide support to ensure arts organizations continue to provide cultural services to the diverse population that comprises Los Angeles County.

Grant amounts range from $3,500 to $214,400. Grantee organizations are spread throughout L.A. County including 32 located in the Fourth District. Over 80 knowledgeable panelists from the arts community, including artists, nonprofit arts administrators and members of the academic community, reviewed and scored the applications.

“Whether it’s a local theatre production or a concert in the park, the arts are an important part of our community,” said Supervisor Knabe. “I am so pleased that in these tough economic times, Los Angeles County is able to support these first-rate organizations so that they can continue exposing the residents of the Fourth District to high-quality art, music and culture.”

Paid Summer Arts Internships Available for College Students

Summer job opportunities for 74 college students are now available through the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program. Detailed descriptions, including contacts, for the internship positions are available at www.lacountyarts.org, click on “Internships.” Interested students are encouraged to apply immediately for these highly competitive, limited number of internships at arts organizations throughout Los Angeles County. Students apply directly to the organization offering the internship not the Arts Commission. Internships begin June 3, 2013.

Graduating seniors who complete their undergraduate degrees between May 1 – September 1, 2013 are eligible, as well as undergraduates. Applicants must have completed at least one semester of college by June 2013 and be currently enrolled in a community college or a four-year university. Applicants must be a resident of and/or attending school in Los Angeles County. Students who have previously participated in the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program are not eligible to participate a second time.

The positions are for 10 weeks and pay $350 per week. Interns also take part in educational and arts networking activities generously funded by The Getty Foundation. Through the program, interns gain a deeper understanding of the work involved in nonprofit arts administration and the role of the arts in a community and develop business skills that can be put to use in their future careers. Internship host organizations help mold and shape potential new arts leaders who may go on to hold positions on staffs, boards or as volunteers.

To support the internships, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, on behalf of the County, has given grants totaling $250,000 to 74 arts organizations throughout the region.

Knabe Announces 2013 Arts Education Partnership Program

Supervisor Don Knabe is pleased to announce his 2013 Arts Education Partnership Program, as part of “Arts Education Week” in Los Angeles County.  In its 12th year, the program supports high quality arts education by providing matching funds to non-profit organizations, community organizations, government agencies and schools across the Fourth Supervisorial District.

The Arts Education Partnership Program is designed to increase and sustain well-rounded education in dance, music, theatre and the visual arts for K-12 students. All of the grant applications that are received will be judged by a panel of experts from the various arts disciplines.

The deadline for organizations to apply for the Arts Education Partnership Program is Thursday, February 28, 2013.  A workshop will take place at the Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 which will provide an opportunity to learn more about the program.  In addition, there will be information on Visual and Performing Arts Standards and best practices in lesson planning.

Free Summer Concerts This Summer in the Fourth District

Free concerts, ranging from Latin to R&B to American Roots, are taking place July through October in Fourth District communities.

The free performances are supported by the Fourth Supervisorial District, Don Knabe, Supervisor.

Artists who perform at Free Concerts in Public Sites are chosen by the concert presenters from the Arts Commission’s Musicians Roster featuring more than 180 L.A. County-based groups representing a range of musical styles. This online directory is accessible to the general public. Go to www.lacountyarts.org and click on “Musicians Roster.” The Roster is searchable by key word, name of artist, and by music style. Artists included are chosen by a panel of experienced and respected music professionals based on artistic excellence, cultural diversity and the ability to work cooperatively with other organizations as representatives of the Free Concerts program.

In addition to the free concerts, the Arts Commission also produces free participatory J.A.M. (Jazzed and Motivated) Sessions at six locations throughout L.A. County, including Mayberry Park in Whittier in the Fourth District. Complete schedules are available at www.fordjamsessions.org.

County Arts Commission Awards Grants to 29 Arts Groups in Fourth District

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission has announced two-year grants to 29 arts organizations in the Fourth Supervisorial District.

The grants for the Fourth District are part of awards totaling $4,118,000 to 184 nonprofit arts organizations for fiscal years 2011-12 and 2012-13. An estimated 10 million people will be served by the organizations receiving grants.

The funds are being given to organizations that focus on promoting cultural services for their residents. An estimated 10 million people will be served by the organizations receiving grants.

“All these recipients are all integral parts of their communities, reaching residents of all ages,” said Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe. “Thanks to the generosity of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, these organizations will continue to enrich and educate the lives of those in their areas.”
